Art & Architecture - How can art enrich a home? with Stephen Crafti

How can art enrich a home? From his considerable experience and travels as an architectural writer, Stephen Crafti's illustrated lecture will mount an argument that art and architecture are inseparable.

Stephen Crafti started writing on Architecture & Design in the early 1990s after purchasing a modernist 1950s house in North Balwyn designed by Montgomery King & Trengove. During the 1990s, Crafti restored this house and started writing for newspapers on magazines, initially focusing on post-war architecture before extending to the broader area of contemporary design. He has now produced over 45 books as well as contributing to leading newspapers and magazines, both in Australia and abroad.

Join award winning architect Peter Maddison as he explores his interest in buildings. Materiality often carries hidden meaning when manipulated by architects. Peter will demonstrate how architects can give higher meaning to buildings through their form making and configuration of building fabric.

Peter Maddison is the Founding Director of Maddison Architects, a multi award-winning architectural practice. He has a unique appreciation of architecture which manifests in the hundreds of projects his practice has completed, awards received and extensive involvement with the profession.

He is currently the Ambassador for Architects Without Frontiers, Patron of Beaumaris Modern, and Ambassador for the Melbourne Open House program and on the Honours Committee of Royal Australian Institute of Architects. He has been making Grand Designs Australia for decades, putting architecture on the public agenda.

Skadi Heckmueller, author of several books on private art collections and avid traveller, is taking us on a bespoke walking tour through Berlin and surroundings. She will guide us to her favourite private, corporate and public art museums, not be missed but often overlooked public art works, as well as architecturally interesting commercial galleries and unusual church buildings.

The talk will be followed by refreshments in the JAHM apartment.
